    François Thango was one of the founders of the Centre for African Arts in Poto-Poto, Brazzaville in 1951. He was an artist with a great sensibility who often retreated to the forest to regain contact with nature, plants, and animals, which he depicted in his later paintings. Thango exhibited his work at the World Fair in Brussels in 1958 and settled in Kinshasa in 1959, where he collaborated with Maurice Alhadeff and became internationally renowned. Thango's paintings evolved from simple scenes of dancers and markets to lush plant life and animals depicted in a graphic, two-dimensional style with vivid colors....
