    In 1928, Frank Wootton joined Eastbourne School of Art, where he won a gold medal and a scholarship for a study trip to Germany. In the 1930s, he illustrated books. He also published several art books, of which "How to Draw Aircraft".

    In 1939 he joined the RAF, where he became a war artist. He painted subjects of the air war in Europe, and towards the end of the war in Southeast Asia. He was also a landscape painter and a horse painter.
