    A famous Czech painter and graphic artist, member of Group 42 and Hollar, Frantisek Gross was born on April 19th, 1909 in Nová Paka, Czech Republic and died on July 27th, 1985 in Prague.

    From Nova Paka after his studies he moved to Prague, where he began his artistic career in Umelecká beseda and later in Group 42 or Hollar.

    His works are characterized by strong cubist tendencies, and undeniable effects of surrealism and impressionism. For his main motifs, he chose frequently the city and the technical civilization as such.

    Gross had a traditional education at the Technical University and School of Decorative Arts in Prague. His first exhibition was with the sculptor Ladislav Zívr in Nová Paka.
