    Frantieek Tichý (March 25, 1896 Prague – Smíchov - October 7, 1961 Prague) was a Czech painter, illustrator, graphic artist and stage designer. He belonged to important personalities of the Czech art avant-garde of the 20th century. In his work, painting and graphics with a circus theme have an important place, which carried a deeper subtext connected with the author's reflections on the essence of artistic creation, the meaning of life, the destiny of man and his existence.

    He was born into the poor family of the cooper and business assistant Alois Tichý and Alžbeta, b. Leisure. He had an older brother, Václav, and a blind sister, Antonia. He attended the German school in Smíchov, where Johann Bauch, the uncle of the painter Jan Ba...
