    American Watercolor Society member Montague Charman (1894-1986) worked in many different areas of the United States, including out west in the Rockies. Charman painted landscapes from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to New York State, possibly in or around Amber, near Syracuse, where the artist lived for some time.

    Charman was born in Richmond, on the edge of London in England, and having established a reputation as a painter, he took up a teaching post in the Faculty of Design at Syracuse University in 1923. He eventually retired in 1960 from the position of Professor of Art at Syracuse.
