    Friedrich Preller I was born 1804 in Eisenach. He was educated at the Weimar School of Drawing and became a professor there in 1832. After his education he began a collaboration with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

    Among his supporters also was the Grand Duke Karl August, who awarded him several scholarships. Therefore Preller traveled to Italy and further studied at the Academy in Antwerp.

    His major works include among others a series of frescoes with scenes from the Odyssey in the Roman House in Leipzig. Friedrich Preller the Elder died in 1878. (cru)...
