    Friedrich Press, 1904-1990, completed his education as a wood and stone sculptor in Munster from 1924 to 1926 and then attended the College of Applied Arts in Dortmund, Germany. Afterwards he studied in Berlin and Dresden. Until 1935, he worked as a freelance artist in the area of Munster, and during this time created his famous Christ Head, which attracted much attention including resistance from the National Socialists. His work was labelled degenerate.

    In 1946, after returning to Dresden from being a prisoner of war, he concentraded on sacred work and interior church design. Beginning in 1970, he redesigned more than 40 church interiors, which are quite a contrast to the bombastic Baroque images in the historic churche...
