    Friedrich von Bömches was the son of a Transylvanian-German family and worked as a painter, graphic artist and photographer. After he had to work as a forced laborer in a Russian quarry as a result of the First World War, he moved to Germany in 1979.

    In his works, the artist deals with his experiences of his touching past. Even during the war, he made photographs and sketches from the things that surrounded him. He also dealt with the tragedy of human existence and the subject of death, mostly in a biblical and mythological context. Von Bömches also made numerous portraits, often depicting prominent personalities. (cbo)
