This praise, from the pen of Amaury-Duval painter, pupil of Ingres, was written in 1829 and reflects the prestige and fame had yet Gaspar de Crayer in Europe in the early nineteenth century. Especially when put in perspective with little consideration that could be the master of Montauban for Flemish paintings from the seventeenth century, who asked his disciples to be blindfolded when they passed in front of Rubens paintings in the Louvre.
