He employed his own son Johann Georg Lorenz as an employee. Rugendas the Younger's watercolor of an Affenpinscher, a breed of dog originally bred to hunt rats and mice, is believed to have come from the same sketchbook as another watercolor depicting two playing leopards. The artist flourished in the 18th century.
