Georg Wichmann spent his childhood in Pomerania. He began studying painting at the Berlin Academy of Arts with Anton von Werner. From 1897 he continued his studies in Breslau with Eduard Kaempffer and Carl Ernst Morgenstern, then from 1898 with Leopold von Kalckreuth in Karlsruhe. In the period from 1901 to 1903 he was involved in the maintenance of the pictures in the galleries of Count Eduard von Pückler in Schedlau and of Count Friedrich von Praschma in Falkenberg.
