The following submitted, January 2005, is from Ingeborg P.Wirth, former student of George Hausdorf.

Professor George Hausdorf, painter, etcher, and teacher, was born May 18, 1888 in Trebnitz near Breslau, Germany. He studied in Breslau with Professor Morgenstern and as Masterstudent with Professor Kallmorgen at the Koenigliche Kunstakademie Charlottenburg, Berlin.

An impressionistic painter of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, George Hausdorf worked with oil, watercolor, pastel and other medias. He created numerous etchings, which he hand colored. In 1939 he accepted an invitation by Ciudad Trujillo to help establish the first school of art in the Dominican Republic. He taught there for nine years.

In 1948 George Hausdorf and his wife migrated to the United States and settled. on New York's Long Island. I met George Hausdorf at a private exhibition of his works at his home. Shortly after I started painting lessons with him. He was a man who lived for art and loved what he was doing. He told me of his habit to sit at night in front of television, not to watch the shows, but to make quick charchoal sketches of actors and actresses. I rermember very well a beautiful sketch of Ernie Kovaks which he gave to the actor.

After a long illness George Hausdorf died 1959 in New York City at the age of 71.

Before George Hausdorf left Germany he signed his work Georg without the "e" as it is customary in Germany. He added the "e" to his first name after he arrived in this country.
