    George Cruikshank was a British artist born in 1792 in London. He was famous for his political cartoons and prolific book illustrations. In his later career, he focused on creating moral narratives in woodcut, particularly in relation to the temperance movement.

    He worked closely with his father, Isaac Cruikshank, before becoming England's most popular satirist. His illustrations for the first English translation of Grimms' Fairy Tales in 1823 showcased his talent. Cruikshank's work was influenced by the British tradition of fairy painting and he was associated with artists like William Blake and Henry Fuseli.
