The direction of his life was changed forever and Mr. Herms began to make art. In 1961, his work was exhibited in the group show, "The Art of Assemblage", at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1962, Mr. Herms work was on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art in an exhibit entitled "Fifty California Artists".
