    Born in Newark, New Jersey on March 18, 1884, George Koch maintained studios in New York City and Mystic, Connecticut after the turn of the century. After visiting California in 1914, he returned in 1917 to establish a home in the Carmel Highlands,.

    Due to anti-German sentiment in the U.S. during WWI, for about a decade he spelled his name Kotch. He was a co-founder of the Carmel Art Association in 1927 and served as director for the first two years.

    A highly skilled painter, his oversize (40"x50") oils include marines and landscapes of the Monterey Peninsula.

    Koch died in Monterey, CA on Sept. 13, 1951
