    Committed to paintings scenes of beauty, George Van Hook hearkens back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when artists had models pose in garden settings to convey a sense of beauty, serenity, and separation from the mundane aspects of everyday life. His work displays the Impressionist interest in color, light and rich paint.

    He was first inspired in his approach in the 1970s when he saw some of the work by California impressionists, who since have been rediscovered but then were not getting much attention.
