    Georges Bergès was a painter and print maker in France. Berges is known for presenting the "identity markers" of the Basque Country: the rural habitat, the famous "etche", the "exotic" fruits of the country: fig trees, oak, peppers, chestnuts, cherry blossoms, grapes... haystacks: a whole luxuriant nature. He takes up this theme in an original way in compositions that resemble lacquer. He then uses powders, sequins, he sometimes includes mother-of-pearl or precious pearls to describe the splendour of the Basque Country, those skies especially when the setting sun is made of gold, for example. After the death of Léon Bonnat in 1922, the Bayonne museum was definitively fitted out by Georges Bergès, who became the curator of the Bonnat Muse...
