    Georges Cyr was born in Montgeron, near Paris. He began an artistic career on the advice of the painter Armand Guillaumin, and in 1924 he participated in an exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants* in Paris.

    In 1934, he left France to travel to the Near and Far East. After a few weeks in Beirut, he fell in love with the city and moved to the seaside in the district of Ain el Mraissé. His studio acquired such a reputation that it was readily considered a school of art. It became the favorite meeting place of artists among whom Abboud, Kanaan, Onsi, Aouad, Basbous.
