    Georges Manillier was fascinating when he spoke to me about (his) painting, at the studio on rue Garibaldi in Lyon, in 1979. Self-taught, he did not hide the color of the (communist) party, of which he was a proud militant. He was a very good teacher and many students owe him a lot, especially Alain Pouillet from Lyon.

    He often painted characters (with demands... you can't get over it), still lifes and female nudes. He started from paper models (taken from newspapers like "Paris Hollywood" the ancestor of the "Lui" and "Playboy" magazines), because his wife forbade him to receive live models...

    He was faithful in friendships, for proof, in 1949 Edouard Chapotat - when he made his portrait - Georges Manillier (in exchange) of...
