He then settled in Berkeley, California, and further studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts. During the 1940s and 1950s he painted scenes of the Oakland area (including a 4 x 8 foot mural at the Boys and Girls Club of Oakland), and taught locally. He died in Berkeley on July 22, 1986.
