    Artist info: German painter and graphic artist. Painter and graphic artist (1899 Naußlitz near Dresden until 1978 Dresden-Dölzschen), from 1915 apprenticeship as a lithographer, 1919-23 pupil at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts, 1923-29 studied at the Dresden Academy under Richard Müller, Otto Gussmann, Otto Hettner and Otto Dix, freelance work in Dresden from 1929.

    Member of the "Dresden Secession 1932" from 1932-33, ostracised as "degenerate" after 1933, confiscation and destruction of his painting "Tiger's Head" from the Dresden Picture Gallery in 1937, participation in World War 2, destruction of numerous early works.
