    Gerda Lepke was born in 1939 in Jena, Germany. She studied painting and graphic arts at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1966 to 1971. Since then, she has worked as a freelance artist and has been in a working and living partnership with Max Uhlig. Lepke co-founded the Dresden Secession 89 in 1989 and is now an honorary member. She received the first art prize of the City of Dresden in 1993 and became a founding member of the Saxon Academy of Arts in 1996. Lepke has had numerous solo exhibitions, including ones at the Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden, the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg, and the Lower Saxony State Museum of Art and Cultural History in Oldenburg.
