    Gerhild Diesner was born on August 4, 1915 in Innsbruck. She attended the college for women's design. 1935 to 1937 she lived in England, where she attended the Chelsea Art School and then the School of Art in Brighton. In 1937 she moved to Munich to study at the Academy of Applied Arts in the Department of Applied Graphics.

    Despite the troubled war times, she managed in 1943 to obtain grants to study in Paris at the Académie André Lhote and at the Ecole de la Grande Chaumiere. French Modern Art was her significant source of inspiration. Though an affinity to the Fauvism of Henri Matisse and other great examples such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin is clearly evident in her works, soon her independ...
