    Gilbert Neumann, a native of San Antonio, was one of Jose Arpa's top students, working and exhibiting in San Antonio in the late 20's and 30's. Neumann painted a mural as part of the government art project during the Depression which was hung in the Robert B. Green Hospital titled Autumn.

    Neumann during the early 30's joined with photographer and artist Ernest Raba and opened a fine arts school and as a member of the Leon Spring Art Colony taught art during the Summers at Leon Springs just outside of San Antonio. During the 1940's he moved to California and later returned to San Antonio were he died.
