    Bernardo De Dominici consecrated Giovan Battista Ruoppolo (Naples, 1629 - 1693) as leader of the Neapolitan pose, dedicating him the only biography for a specialist of this peculiar pictorial genre. The artist, in fact, is one of the most renowned naturamortisti active in Naples during the seventeenth century, influenced by the Roman culture of Salini and Cerquozzi and the caravaggesque feelings of Luca Forte.

    These suggestions led him to develop a personal descriptive realism evolving on baroque registers of great scenic and decorative effect, especially in the works of maturity, after 1670. This change of taste was certainly determined by the presence in Naples since 1675 by Abraham Brueghel.
