  • Biography

The artist is one of the most important miniature painters of his time, who came from Croatia to Italy in 1516, and in Venice, Florence and Rome, together with Giulio Romano (around 1499-1546).

A work, which is extremely finely detailed on parchment, shows in the upper center the Virgin, enthroned on a ribbon of clouds, in a red dress and a blue mantle cloth with the Christ Child on her left knee. These are surrounded by laterally moving larger and smaller angel figures, putti and winged angels. In the lower part, in pairs, the order holy Dominicus, Antonius, Klara and Karl Boromäus. The small painting documents the highest flowering of the book painting.
