    Giuseppe Costantini (1844-1894)

    Born in Nola (Naples) on 8/6/1844, he was the son of Don Giovanni, surgeon at the Military Hospital of Nola (originally from San Paolo Belsito), and Donna Carmela, of the wealthy family of Beard Nola. Giuseppe was the fourth of five brothers. After first studying at the Seminary of Nola, he went to the Art Institute in Naples and attended the Academy of BB. AA. at Naples between 1865 and 1866.

    After his academic studies, he became friends with the painters of the School of Posillipo, but returned to Nola around 1870 to take over the directorship of the School of Design & Applied Arts, where he remained until 1893.
