    Giuseppe Zais was an Italian landscape painter active during the 18th century, known for his pastoral scenes and decorative frescoes. Born in the mountain town of Forno di Canale near Belluno, Zais moved to Venice, where he developed a career that spanned nearly five decades.

    He was influenced early on by the works of Marco Ricci and Francesco Zuccarelli, adopting their approach to vedute and pastoral compositions. Though he arrived in Venice after the deaths of Bartolomeo Pedon and Matteo Stom, their atmospheric landscapes also informed his visual vocabulary.

    Zais was registered with the Venetian Fraglia of Painters from 1748 to 1768 and was elected to the Accademia Veneziana in 1774. Among his patrons were Joseph...
