    Born in New York City, Gustave Von Groschwitz was a graphics artist as well as a teacher, museum director and writer. During the Depression in the 1930s, he co-chaired the Graphics Division of the Federal Arts Project with Ernest Limbach.

    Von Groschwitz studied at Columbia University, receiving a B.A. Degree in 1927. He was a member of the Print Council of America, the Society of American Etchers and the American National Committee on Engraving.

    Teaching assignments included Wesleyan University, 1938 to 1945, and the University of Cincinnati, 1953 to 1963, and from 1938 to 1945, he was Curator of Prints at Wesleyan University Art Museum. From 1968, he was Associate Director of the Museum of Art at the University of Iowa.
