    Gyula Pauer, born in 1941 in Hungary, was a prominent Hungarian sculptor known for his innovative shell sculptures created from body impressions. Inspired by the Shroud of Turin, Pauer utilized plaster casting to create exact replicas of models in bronze or resin. His "Beauty Action" project, documenting a beauty queen contest in socialist Hungary, became controversial and tragic when the winning model committed suicide. Pauer's work reflects social realities and transitions from socialism to market capitalism, capturing the beauty ideals of the 1980s.
