    Hanne Darboven (1941-2009) studied from 1962 to 1965 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, where Willem Grimm and Almir Mavignier were her teachers. She then continued her studies in New York. Influenced by the Minimal Artists, Sol LeWitt and Carl Andre, Darboven found her very special form of conceptual art.

    Based on time periods and check sums of the days she created construction-like drawings on graph paper, which she reduces increasingly to the simplest mathematical form over the years. Later she translated the number sequences also to note sequences.
