Hans Bischoffshausen was born in 1927, in Feld am See/Kärnten, Austria. An encounter with the work of Lucio Fontana, the great Italian champion, led Hans to an artistic turn. Prior to their meeting, Hans Bischoffshausen's work was dark and a material slaughter in asphalt, ashes, varnish and tin. After, it was bright, often white and yet unfathomable. Hans and Lucio held several joint exhibitions and became lifelong friends. In 1959, Hans and his family moved to Paris, then the capital of the avant-garde.
