    Johann (Hans) Bertle, Austrian painter, graphic artist, illustrator, poster - and exlibris illustrator (1880 Schruns / Vorarlberg to 1943 Schruns).

    Education:
    Elementary school in Schruns and high school in Einsiedeln in Switzerland, studied 1897 - 1903 at the Academy Munich with Nikolaus Gysis, Wilhelm von Diez and Carl von Marr.

    In 1902, he created his first mural with his father, the painter Johann Jakob Bertle (1837 - 1911); he undertook a study trip to Paris in 1902, in 1904 and 1906 he studied in Italy.

    From 1908 he worked as a portraitist for the high society, such as the Bavarian Royal family; from 1910 - 1914 he ran a painting school in Munich.
