About Hans Bollongier

  • Biography

Hans Bollongier was a Dutch still-life painter who was born in an unknown year and worked in Haarlem. He became a member of the Guild of St. Luke in 1623 and was known for his carefully composed and intricately painted bouquets of flowers, often arranged in a small glass vase.

He was much celebrated during his lifetime for his work, which bore the influence of the leading still-life painter of the period, Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder. Bollongier's later works were characterized by a much looser handling of paint.

Little is known about his life beyond his work as a painter.
