    Johann (Hans) Rudolf Hentschel was born in 1869. Active in Dresden, he was a painter, draftsman, etcher, and porcelain painter.

    Starting in 1884, he was a student of the Meissen Drawing School. In 1888, he trained as a repairer. From 1889-93, he studied at the Munich academy with Nikolaus Gysis, Ludwig von Löfftz, and Paul bump.

    In 1894, he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and from 1895 in Etaples. In 1895, the artist returned to Meissen, and worked as a teacher at the porcelain factory. He also became a member of the National Association of visual Artists of Germany, the German Künstlerbund Weimar, and in the Dresden Art cooperative.
