Austrian marine painter and seaman (1842 Vienna to 1913 Hamburg), resident in Hamburg from 1854, 1856-64 seaman in the merchant navy, 1864-69 painting pupil at the Hamburg trade school, parallel pupil of Anton Melbye, undertook study trips to Scandinavia, Italy, Greece, Turkey and South America, 1869 in the entourage of Crown Prince Friedrich, participated in the opening of the Suez Canal, maintained student studio, 1868-1903 represented at the exhibitions of the Hamburg Kunstverein, active in Hamburg,
