    Henri-Jacques Bource, Belgian 1826 - 1899

    Known as an able painter of landscapes, marines and portraits, Bource nonetheless found his favorite talent to be depicting scenes from the everyday life of fisherman and their families.

    Born in Antwerp, Belgium, he was to enter the Royal Academy in that city. There he studied under Baron Gustave Wappers, a historical painter of the romantic school, and Josef Dyckmans, a genre painter noted for his extreme finish. The artist was likely influenced further through his travels as he was known to have spent time in Holland, Italy, Germany, Norway, England and France.
