    Henri Joseph Antonissen1, born June 9, 1737 in Antwerp (Belgium) and died April 4, 1794 in the same city, was a landscape painter and Flemish animal painter.

    Son of shopkeepers, he was a student of the painter Antwerp Balthazar Beschey. Admitted to the Guild of St. Luke of Antwerp (the Society of Painters of the City), he held the responsibilities of Dean of this institution in 1763 and 1773.

    At the same time landscape painter, animal painter and engraver, this conscientious representative of the Flemish school has the main merit of having trained in his workshop several excellent landscapers: Hendrik de Cort, Balthasar Ommeganck and Simon Denis.
