    Henrik Sörensen was an artist who became a central figure among Matisse's students in the 1910s. Born in Värmland, Sweden, he grew up in Norway after moving there with his family at the age of 12. Sörensen made his debut at an early age and created the painting 'Svartbekken' in 1908, considered the first expressionist painting in Norway. During World War II, he returned to Norway, where the emotional side of his work was strongly influenced by the psychological currents and experiences of the war.
