Henri Meylan, born in 1895 in the Vallée de Joux, began to draw at a young age, but he become a notary and studied law in Lausanne. In the army, he lost his sense of hearing in 1916 as a result of a shell explosion. This disability had a negative effect on his social life and artistic-social structure, but also, on the other hand, promoted his creativity. From 1918 Henry Meylan studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and, two years later, successfully exhibited at the Musée Arlaud in Lausanne.
