About Henry Vickers

    Henry Harold Vickers (1851 - 1918) was a painter, draftsman and educator. He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England and died in Ottawa, Ontario, where he had lived since emigrating to Canada in about 1881.

    His primary medium was oil paint. His primary subjects were landscapes, rural scenes, sheep, cattle, rivers and portraits. His style was Realism*. AskART has excellent illustrations of his work.

    His art education includes studies in painting at the Birmingham and Midland Institute (England), anatomy at Queen's College (now the University of Birmingham Medical School), and landscape painting under Frederick Henry Henshaw (see AskART), also in Birmingham.
