    Herbert Harold Coetzee was a self-taught South African artist who received formal training at the Continental School of Art in Cape Town and the Koninklijke Acedemie voor Schone Kunsten en de Hogere Institute in Antwerp. He was a member of the South African Society of Artists, lectured at the Cape Technical College, and created murals for various establishments. Coetzee's artistic production mainly consisted of landscapes, still-life studies, seascapes, figures, and portraits in a colorful palette with loose brush strokes, following the Cape tradition of derivative impressionism.
