    Herbert Reynolds (H.R.) Kniffin (1886-1970) was an American painter, artist, craftsman and art educator most known for his contribution to female and ethnically diverse art education and landscape/cityscape painting scenes. Kniffin was born in New York, NY in 1886. He obtaining a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Columbia University, New York, NY. Kniffin received additional training at the National Academy of Design under Emil Carlsen (1848-1932), the Art Students' League of New York, Cooper Union School of Art, New York and the Grand Central School of Art, New York. After leaving school he traveled to Europe to study art in Paris, France and Munich, Germany in the 1890s.
