    Hermann Plattner was born in Bern and attended elementary schools from 1916 to 1929 with a high school diploma at the Realgymnasium in Bern. From 1929 to 1932, studies followed at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bern. He qualified as a drawing teacher from 1932 to 1935 at the Bern School of Applied Arts. With his brother he took courses at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière* in Paris with Charles Blanc and Fernand Léger as well as at the Heymann Academy in Munich.

    In the years 1935 to 1937 he undertook study trips to Italy, southern France, Holland and Belgium. The non-representational painting by Max von Mühlenen and Jacques Villon became a significant stimulus for him. During World War II, Plattner was active in th...
