    Hermann Knopf (1870-1928) studied at the Academy in his native city of Vienna with the genre painter Julius Victor Berger and in Munich under the history painter Alexander of Liezen-Mayer. In 1896 and 1897 he continued his studies in Paris with Fernand Cormon, also a history painter, and then settled in Munich.

    He regularly exhibited at the Glasspalast and was a board member of the Munich Artists' Association. Next to portraits, Knopf created mainly genre paintings with Dutch motifs. His works can be found among others in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich and at the Landesmuseum, Münster. (fea)
