    Hermann Umgelter was born on February 28, 1891 in Stuttgart-Botnang, Germany. In 1911 he was drafted for military service with the Imperial Navy in Wilhelmshaven, thanks to a recommendation of the Duchess Wera of Württemberg. She supported him throughout his life, so that he was able to continue working there artistically.

    He created paintings and drawings from the Navy and the East Frisian landscape. At the end of the war, he returned to Stuttgart. Numerous trips to France, Italy, and Switzerland promoted his creativity. With his large-format oil paintings shown at exhibitions, notably the Swabian Alb, Lake Constance and, not least, his narrower home around Stuttgart, the painter has made a name for himself.
