Born in 1919, in Hamhung which was under the rule of Japan. After graduating from Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Kim was a lecturer at Seoul National University after the Independence. He studied painting in Paris from 1955, his fascinated works with the features of Cubism, Fauvism and Expressionism emerged as statues of women as metaphor of the goddess of peace. Through women in the works, going back and forth between human emotions and feelings such as the pleasure of life, despair, emptiness, unlimited desire, Kim drew the world view based on Oriental Philosophy and thought as an essential concept.
