    BROWN, Horace

Horace Brown grew up in Springfield, Vermont. In 1902 he was able to buy the home in Springfield his great-great grandfather built in 1790. He later got elected to the Vermont state senate.

When his father passed, Brown felt free to take up painting, and in 1916, he became a student, and then a friend, of American Impressionist Willard Metcalf. He began spending winters in Miami sometime before 1943, where he was elected to the prestigious Blue Dome Fellowship of artists. Brown's work can be found in the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, the Wood Memorial Art Gallery in Montpelier, Vermont and the Museum at the University of Kentucky.
