    Horatio Henry Couldery was born in Lewisham, London, and was the son of a painter. He attended the Royal Academy School at the age of 25 and exhibited numerous works at various prestigious institutions. Notably, art critic John Ruskin praised Couldery's skillful and detailed painting style, describing it as "Dureresque" and highlighting his deep understanding and sympathy for nature. His works can be found in museums such as the Museum of Nottingham and the Museum of Norwich, as well as in private collections. The largest collection of his works is housed in the Hastings County Museum, Ontario, Canada, thanks to the Ann Susannah Salaman bequest.
