About Hubert Salentin

  • Biography

Hubert Salentin was a German painter who lived on the Rhine during the 19th century. He was part of the Düsseldorf School and was initially underestimated among genre painters. However, he has recently received attention for his distinctive works, especially those that focus on religion in contemporary society. Salentin was interested in realism, the revelation or visualization of the divine, and the recollection of the powers of the soul. He created a group of works between 1870 and 1890 with titles such as "Religious Instruction", "Pilgrimage in the Chapel", and "Devotion in the Forest", which Mayme Neher referred to as a "poetic-religious genre"
